Victory House Community Resource Center food distribution event in Tallahassee, Fl, which served 500 families.
We met Willie on a rainy Friday morning at Victory House Community Resource Center’s food distribution event. He lives in Tallahassee’s Shady Grove community with his disabled wife.
Retired from the Department of Highway Safety, where he worked for 30 years, Willie now serves as a bus assistant for Leon County Schools. Normally he would be working the summer months, however, there’s no summer school this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the short two-month duration of his unemployment, Willie is not able to apply for any type of assistance during July and August when he’d typically be receiving a paycheck.
“I know that other bills can wait, but food is one of the things you really gotta have that’s a necessity. Being able to provide food for my family makes me feel better.”
“I am so grateful that Second Harvest comes out to our area like this. What you do is so appreciated and we love you for it. Food is like love—it covers a whole lotta things.”
