The delivery driver is responsible for assisting with inventory control by correctly receipting, pulling orders, distributing product and assisting with warehouse maintenance. Transportation duties include safely operating company vehicles to make scheduled pickup and deliveries of food products.

- Inspect, operate, maintain assigned trucks in a professional & safe manner as per state drivers’ code, highway safety rules, and USDOT code.
- Complete daily routes as assigned and check call at each stop.
- Complete all assignments in such a way as to maintain the integrity of products through proper inspection, handling and storage procedures.
- Inspect all products to be picked up and complete the Driver Inspection report for every load transported.
- Load and unload vehicle and operate in a safe manner at all times.
- Always transport food products under proper Food Safety protocols; including perishable product at proper temperatures.
- Assist in inventory control, pulling orders and warehouse maintenance
- Establish rapport with representatives of food donors and vendors.
- Assist with weighing of product, loading and unloading at warehouses.
- Maintain proper storage separation of food and non-food items
- Continuously check products for expiration dates, any signs of contamination, or other signs of unsafe distribution.
- Communicate suggestions, ideas, improvements and other constructive feedback to management
- Maintenance of correct and updated records of receipts and distribution of product reported to the Warehouse Manager and Product Manager.
- Maintenance of first-in/first-out system, ensuring product safety.
- Active participation in training and educational opportunities pertaining to interest, duties and responsibilities.
- Assist with inventory control, quality control, and other duties ascribed by the Warehouse and Transportation Coordinators.
- Compliance with OSHA, USDA, FL DA & CS, Second Harvest policies and procedures.
- Obtain, review, implement, and sign off on those responsibilities pertaining to warehouse practices as outlined by SHBB and any manuals deemed pertinent by supervisor.
Required Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities, competencies)
- Commercial Driver’s License “B” required
- Active Medical Card
- Ability to communicate and interact with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to lift and carry weight in accordance with OSHA standards.
- Basic math and computer skills
- Basic reading and writing skills in the English language.
- Ability to successfully complete training pertaining to the safe operation of Truck equipment and DOT Safety inspections.
- Ability to successfully complete training pertaining to the safe operation of warehouse equipment and machinery.
- Ability to prepare written reports accurately.
- Capable of following directions.
- Capable of working under pressure, completing various assignments responsibly and in a timely manner.
- Drug screening, DOT physical and background checks are required.
- Available for random testing to ensure road safety
- Clean MVR Required
- Ability to be placed on Second Harvest of the Big Bend’s Vehicle Coverage
- High School diploma or GED preferred
Salary for this position is $15.00-$17.00 an hour commensurate upon experience. Second Harvest also provides a generous benefits package inclusive of paid health, dental and life insurance for the employee.
