Second Harvest is a nonprofit food bank that collects and distributes food to hunger-relief charities, and also through specialized programs and mobile food distributions undertaken with community partners. We are dedicated to reducing hunger and malnutrition, and we function as the warehouse for millions of pounds of food and other essential products that go out to the community. We are a member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic food relief organization, and one of three Feeding America food banks in Florida designated for disaster/crisis response.
Our Feeding America service area is 9,000 square miles and includes 11 counties: Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, Wakulla.
Additionally, under contract with other north Florida food banks, we serve five more counties: Columbia, Dixie, Hamilton, Lafayette, Suwanee.
The food bank operates from a 41,000-square-foot facility located in Tallahassee, FL. The facility includes seven shipping docks, 12,000 square feet of freezer and cooler space, and a fleet of 13 vehicles including box trucks, tractors, trailers, two Sprinter vans and one sedan.
In 2021, Second Harvest distributed 13.8 million pounds of food.
