Besides offering flexibility of delivery, mobile pantries offer an effective and expeditious way of distributing food and maintain an atmosphere of dignity. A mobile pantry also serves some very specific needs:
- Targets the underserved area, removing barriers to access and therefore expands capacity, builds the community and creates access.
- Takes food directly to clients in a timely manner allowing a farmer’s market-style distribution encouraging greater interaction between volunteers and clients, allowing them to share recipes, family traditions and life stories.
- Provides the opportunity for religious and charitable organizations to partner with local governments, businesses, and universities to manage the distribution. A one-time distribution can develop into a long-term partnership of providing necessary services for the needy in the community.
