Nutrition Education and Programs Coordinator


Position Summary 

The Nutrition Education and Programs Coordinator plays a vital role in overseeing and coordinating a diverse array of nutrition education and programs while cultivating and strengthening relationships with our community partners. This role involves meticulously monitoring scheduled activities, ensuring the precision of data reporting, facilitating the seamless integration of new nutrition education classes, and offering continuous support to community partners throughout our service area. Will uphold the mission of Second Harvest of the Big Bend (SHBB): to advance change by feeding the hungry and educating and engaging the community in the fight to end hunger. 

Position Responsibilities 

  1. Maintain a positive work attitude by acting and communicating in a manner conducive to good interpersonal relations (e.g., helpful, courteous, pleasant) with customers, all public, co-workers and managers, under the spirit of SHBB’s mission. 
  2. Develop and nurture relationships with new and existing partners. 
  3. Address and help to resolve program site concerns and issues. 
  4. Understand and interpret applicable State and Federal Regulations and Laws and Feeding America rules. 
  5. Evaluate and improve SHBB’s programs while meeting all compliance standards set by Feeding America and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations. 
  6. Collect, track, and analyze data of participation by all partners. 
  7. Onboard new partners and provide quality training and technical assistance for existing partners helping to ensure consistent program standards.
    1. Train partners on electronic data collection software, Service Insights. Provide technical assistance, as needed. 
  8. Monitor program sites and partner agencies according to Feeding America rules and USDA regulations. 
  9. Assist other Coordinators in coordination and oversight of the following programs:
    1. Child Nutrition Programs:
      1. Kids Café 
      2. School Market Program
      3. Summer BreakSpot aka Summer Food Service Program
    2. Family Nutrition Programs:
      1. Grocery Locker Program 
      2. Mobile Pantry Program
      3. SNAP-Ed Nutrition Program
      4. The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) 
    3. Senior Nutrition Programs:
      1. Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
  10. Represent Second Harvest of the Big Bend in community-based meetings, as needed.
  11. Attend required training outside of Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities, competencies) 

  1. Bachelor’s degree or 4 years work experience in related field preferred. 
  2. Driver’s license and clean driving record. 
  3. Must be able to pass a Level II background check. 
  4. Ability to organize and prioritize work and tasks. 
  5. Pleasant, courteous, professional demeanor. 
  6. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. 
  7. Attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness. 
  8. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The ability to learn and use various software programs dealing with databases and inventory systems. 
  9. Must be self-motivated and work well with people in a team environment, and can manage time and multiple projects. 
  10. Must be flexible with schedule when issues or emergencies arise. 
  11. Must assist in disaster response (i.e. Hurricanes, floods, pandemics, etc.). 
  12. Must be able to travel within our 16 counties several times per week in personal vehicle if company car is not available. 

Compensation:

This position pays is $19.00-$21.00 an hour commensurate upon experience. Second Harvest also provides a generous benefits package inclusive of paid health, dental and life insurance for the employee. Employees may elect to participate in the Simple IRA retirement program; SHBB will match up to 3% of your salary. SHBB recognizes 12 paid holidays each year, and employees receive a generous PTO allotment.
