Celebrating the vital role of our volunteers

April 17, 2024

In the battle against hunger, every hand extended in kindness, every hour volunteered, and every heart dedicated to service becomes a beacon of hope for those in need. At Second Harvest of the Big Bend, our mission to fight hunger in the community is made possible by the unwavering support and commitment of our volunteers. In 2023, their incredible dedication generously donated nearly 17,000 volunteer hours, which is equivalent to 9 full time staff members, with over 7,500 individuals stepping up to volunteer and serve.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. They are the unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes, embodying the spirit of compassion. Whether it’s sorting and packing food donations, distributing meals to those facing food insecurity, or assisting with administrative tasks, their contributions are invaluable and we are forever grateful.

The impact of our volunteers extends beyond the numbers. Each hour volunteered represents a commitment to making a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need. It’s in the smiles shared, the conversations had, and the bonds formed that the true essence of community and humanity is revealed.

As we reflect on the incredible contributions of our volunteers in 2023, we are filled with gratitude and admiration. Without them, our mission to fight hunger in the community would be impossible.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to nurturing and expanding our volunteer program, recognizing that our volunteers are not just supporters but essential partners in our journey towards a hunger-free future. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve and build a stronger, more resilient community for all.

We extend a heartfelt thanks to each and every volunteer who has dedicated their time, energy, and passion to support Second Harvest of the Big Bend. Your contributions exemplify the power of community coming together to create positive change.
