DISASTER RELIEF
As part of the Big Bend COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disasters),
which includes the Red Cross, The Salvation Army, The Emergency Operations Center, Volunteer Leon, Big Bend 211, and others, Second Harvest provides food, water, and other necessities both before and after a crisis or disaster. Second Harvest also works with Feeding Florida and other food banks to provide aid in disaster situations throughout the entire state of Florida.
Second Harvest of the Big Bend and our disaster preparedness team are trained and prepared to handle disaster situations that may impact our service area. In partnership with Emergency Operations Centers in our service area, we provide water and food to our service area and other impacted areas during crisis situations.
In 2023, Hurricane Idalia made a direct impact in our service area affecting 6 counties in our service area. We worked to immediately respond, distributing over 1,000,000 pounds of food in a month after the disaster.
